Hello lovely readers,
I almost feel as if I should reintroduce myself here - I know, it’s so long since I told everyone I was moving to Substack and I have been loitering around the place for weeks instead of actually putting anything into your email boxes - oops!
I suppose, the more time I’ve spent here, the more I’ve begun to really like it. There seems to be an honesty, a lovely sense that people are speaking from the heart. Of course, there also seems to be a message - all of the interesting people have what you would call a USP and maybe that’s why I haven’t jumped in and put something out there.
I’m not sure I have a Unique Selling Point - I’m not sure I actually want to be here to sell, but I do want to chat. I want to write regularly and natter with people who are basically like me, enjoy books, occasionally get a little cross with things, but generally are happy out and maybe just want to talk about ordinary, every day things…
So, I suppose, it would be good to hear what you think - is there a specific topic that you’d like to hear all about? There are lots of things we can chat about alongside what we’re currently reading or what I’m currently writing or the writing life in general - although, these last few days, I’ve spent very little time writing and a lot of time mooching about and eating far too much pizza and pasta for my own good!
Lots going on here in the Hogan House in these last few weeks. Today has been a bit crazy, between having an announcement in the publishing press around my next writing contract (good news, there’s another three books on the way over the next three years!) and a cover reveal for my next book THE HOUSE AT OCEANS END
And then, there’s the matter of the An Post Book Awards - I think that might be the subject of my next post… I might call it A Fish Out Of Water - buckle up if you want to giggle - but more soon!
In the reading news - I’ve decided to go on a bit of a Bronte binge - those of you who have been receiving the newsletters for a while will not be new to me picking up an author and deep diving. I’ve started with Jane Eyre, but it’s the only one I had previously read (embarrassing to admit!) How could I have forgotten how amazing this story was? I remember many years ago being lost in it. It’s truly one of those books that cuts you off in a world far, far away from the one you sat down in. I plan to read the books by the Bronte sisters in order of publication over the next year. I’ll be reading others between, of course, there will be books that will come along and I simply won’t be able to resist. I finished reading Elif Shafak’s wonderful new book, There Are Rivers In The Sky - it was, simply wonderful. I highly recommend.
Oh dear, I’ve just spotted the time - I’ve spent much too long nattering on here, there is a woman waiting for me to meet her for a job (a very slow, short jog, it must be said)
So, if I manage to send this out successfully and it lands in your inbox, do let me know it’s arrived and you know - keep reading!
Best,
Faith xxxxxx
Great to see you on Substack thanks for joining and writing. Great to have an opportunity to share both the ordinary and the extraordinary. How has writing changed for you over the years. M
